Tunisia does not accept any interference in its internal affairs, just as it does not tolerate any interference in its foreign policy, declared President Kaïs Saïed, during a meeting, Friday, March 10, 2023, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, of Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar.

The Head of State sharply denounced, in a video sequence published by the Presidency of the Republic, what he described as an “offensive launched against Tunisia” , stressing that “this fierce campaign was orchestrated by circles known with known motivations”, without naming these circles.

“The rumours, fake news and fabricated pseudo-stories about the degrading treatment of Africans in Tunisia are part of a relentless campaign against Tunisia and its state ,” he also said.

The President seized the opportunity to reaffirm his position of categorical rejection of the accusations of racial discrimination brought against Tunisia, stressing that he would not tolerate any practice of racial discrimination or human trafficking, nor would he, on the other hand, tolerate that Tunisia is the victim of such abuses, or that Tunisian legislation is flouted by alternative jurisdictions, alluding to sub-Saharan immigrants who have established a kind of parallel jurisdiction to manage conflicts within their community in certain Tunisian cities.

Kaïs Saïed recalled, in this regard, the measures recently taken by Tunisia to facilitate the stay of sub-Saharan African brothers as much as possible, stressing that Tunisia’s relations with the rest of Africa are strong and solid and ” cannot in no case be affected by campaigns of peddlers who have sold their conscience at the cost of blind submission to foreigners to harm and target their country” .

The president also called on countries that have spread false allegations of racial discrimination in Tunisia to “reconsider their racist and colonialist history critically to see the heavy toll they have taken on African countries” , in a hint crystal clear to some Western countries who have criticized his statements on illegal immigration to Tunisia.

Moreover, the President of the Republic reaffirmed that Tunisia has supported the liberation movements of African peoples from the beginning and has never failed to protect its African brothers as human beings, whatever the color of their skin, warning of the potential risks of seeing Africa’s future shaped elsewhere.
