Judo: Mbagnick Ndiaye retains his title of champion of Africa, good harvest of Algeria

Senegalese Mbagnick Ndiaye retained his title of African champion this Saturday by winning the Algerian Mohamed Sofiane Belrekaa in the final of the over 100 kg category, during the 41st edition of the African judo championship , which started on Friday in Antananarivo (Madagascar).

Two-time reigning African champion Mbagnick Ndiaye is the head of the Senegalese delegation to these African judo championships. Before this continental title, the Senegalese judokate Monica Sagna won the bronze medal in the +78 kg category at this competition which ends this Sunday in the Madagascan capital.

The silver medals were won by Sonia Asselah (+78 kg), Abderrahmane Benamadi (-90 kg) and Mohamed Sofiane Belrekaa (+100 kg), who all lost in the final against respectively Cameroonian Vanessa Mballa Atangana, l Egyptian Abdelakher Hatem and Senegalese Mbagnick Ndiaye.

The bronze went to Kaouther Ouallal (-78 kg), winner of the Chadian Daniela Guidione, in the repechage. After three days of competition, Algeria’s harvest stands at 6 medals (1 gold, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes).

Fraj Dhouibi wins her 4th African title
Tunisian Fraj Dhouibi (-60kg) also confirmed his continental supremacy. He just won his 4th African title by winning gold. After eliminating an Angolan opponent in the quarter-finals by “golden score”, Fraj Dhouibi was ready for this African game.

In the semifinals, he got the better of one of the best Africans, namely the Senegalese Moussa Diop, beating him by “golden score”. Before this new African title, Fraj Dhouibi placed himself in 54th place in the world, with 704 points. As for her compatriot Ghofrane Khélifi (57 kg), she settled for a bronze medal.

In addition to the titles, the judokas present at this competition will try to score points to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan), scheduled for next summer. In total, only 125 athletes (75 men and 50 women) representing 32 countries.
