Khaled Nezzar could return to Algeria to be retried by justice

DIA-20 December 2020: The retired former General, currently on the run abroad, Khaled Nezzar could return to Algeria, according to various sources. Nezzar is said to have expressed the wish to return to Algeria so that he can be tried again.

In September 2019, the military court in Blida tried Khaled Nezzar and his son Lotfi, who were on the run abroad. Nezzar and his son are charged with “crimes of conspiracy to undermine military authority and of conspiracy against state authority.” The facts provided for and punished respectively by article 284 of the Code of Military Justice and 78 of the Penal Code.

These accusations also concerned Tartag Athman, Said Bouteflika and Mediene Mohamed said General Toufik as well as Louiza Hanoune.

Khaled Nezzar and his son, guilty of the acts with which they are accused were sentenced to twenty (20) years of criminal imprisonment.
