Japanese donation of 33 million dinars to fight illegal fishing in Tunisia

An agreement relating to a Japanese grant of 33 million dinars for the benefit of Tunisia, which will be allocated to the purchase of two vessels to fight against illegal fishing was signed this Wednesday, December 9 in Tunis between Motegi Toshimitsu, Minister of Affairs foreigners from Japan, on an official visit to Tunisia, and Mohamed Ali Nafti, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The objective of the agreement is to strengthen the capacity of the Tunisian authorities to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in Tunisia, a statement posted on the Facebook page of the Japanese embassy in Tunisia said.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs expressed the gratitude of the Tunisian government to the government of Japan for its support to the country, helping to fight the coronavirus pandemic and to control fishing. He also said that Japan has chosen Tunisia to host the eighth session of the Tokyo Conference on African Development in 2022. A conference that will strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
