The progress of the African Cup took a controversial turn for Algerian supporters who traveled to Ivory Coast to support the national team. Particularly because of the Algerian Sofia Belemmane who sparked indignation on the web, because of her comments about the country.

However, another Algerian woman tried to put an end to this controversy. Present in Ivory Coast to support the National Team, the Algerian influencer and artist, Baraka Merzaia experienced a funny situation, due to her dark skin color. The latter was mistaken for a Guinean supporter by the staff of her hotel.

It must be said that this is not the first time that an Algerian woman has faced this type of situation because of her skin color. The artist from Ain Salah was seen passing for a Senegalese national at the Mandela Stadium, during CHAN.

In her new video on social networks, Baraka says when having her meal, at her hotel in Ivory Coast, the staff of the establishment did not want to believe her when she claimed to be of Algerian origin and refused to welcome him in the section reserved for Algerian supporters. And this is because of his skin color. This is until the other Algerians intervened to confirm that she is also Algerian.

Baraka Merzaia almost missed her meal and explained to the hotel staff that citizens of southern Algeria also have dark skin tones. “They didn’t know that there are black Algerians and that the country is a continent,” Baraka explained on his social networks.
