The Israeli Liaison Office in Morocco revealed on Wednesday (February 22nd) that the construction of the headquarters of the Israeli Embassy in Rabat had begun. Office chief Alona Fisher Cam called the event a “historic moment” and said the new building would not only be an embassy, but also “a home for all Israelis in Morocco.”

The contract for the construction of the permanent embassy had been signed by the former head of the liaison office, David Govrin, on August 1, 2022, according to i24News. However, no Moroccan official attended the launch of the works.

It should be recalled that the opening ceremony of the offices of the Israeli channel i24News in Rabat and Casablanca took place on May 31, 2022, in the presence of André Azoulay, adviser to King Mohammed VI, the Minister of Youth, culture and communication, Mehdi Bensaid, and the Minister of Housing, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri.

The normalization of relations between Israel and Morocco was announced in December 2020, with the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries, after a 20-year hiatus.
