The video game industry in Morocco has experienced a meteoric rise in recent years. In 2021, its revenues were estimated at around 1.5 billion DH all platforms combined.

According to a new survey by L’Economiste-Sunergia, the details of which will be revealed this week, 23% of Moroccans are gamers, 18% of them spend an average of 200 DH per month on micro-transactions.

In addition, according to HCP projections, there will be just over 25 million Moroccans over the age of 18 in 2022. This year, the video game industry should weigh 2.5 billion DH in micro-transactions only, according to projections, and this does not include Moroccans under 18 who undoubtedly have more players.

By way of comparison, a traditional Moroccan industry such as edible oils represented 6 billion DH in 2019. The sum of 2.5 billion DH also corresponds to almost 1% of the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
