Emmanuel Macron recently called for the “easing” of tensions between Algeria and Morocco, two rival powers in the region. Relations between the two countries have been strained in recent years, due to differences over issues such as the status of Western Sahara and Sahrawi refugees.

The French president said he did not believe in a war between the two countries, but highlighted “speculation among some, fantasy among others, and even the will to war among some”. He also stressed the importance of maintaining stability and security in the region and called on the two countries to resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

It is important to note that France has close ties with both countries. As a former colonial power in Algeria, it has strong diplomatic and economic relations with that country, and it is also a close ally of Morocco. As a regional power and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, France plays an important role in resolving conflicts in the region.

It should also be pointed out that the tensions between Algeria and Morocco have repercussions for the entire region. Conflicts between the two countries can hinder economic development and regional cooperation, as well as jeopardize the security and stability of the region. It is therefore in the interest of all regional and international actors to work together to resolve disputes between Algeria and Morocco and maintain peace and security in the region.
