Algeria is facing a deadly upsurge in the covid-19 pandemic, with more than 1,500 positive cases on average per day. Many deaths are recorded every day in hospitals for lack of oxygen.

To cope with the situation, citizens and public authorities are mobilizing to rapidly equip hospitals with the means to fight against covid-19, in particular oxygen production devices, which are sorely lacking in health establishments.

In Algeria and abroad, solidarity is being organized and appeals for donations are increasing, with the entry into the running of the country’s diplomatic representations.

“Very worrying” health situation

On Thursday, the Consulate General of Algeria in Geneva “launched an appeal for the generosity of its nationals residing in Switzerland wishing to make their financial or material contributions, in order to save lives and treat patients suffering from Covid-19 in our country.”

The Consulate, which evokes a “very worrying” health situation, undertakes to “set up in the coming days a bank account dedicated to this action of solidarity for compatriots wishing to make their financial contributions. Donations of medical materials and equipment can be deposited at the consulate general for their forwarding to Algeria.”
