Corruption: Sidi Saïd and His 3 Sons Heavily Sentenced

The former boss of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA),  Abdelmadjid Sidi Saïd, was arrested on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Then placed under a warrant of committal the next day, Thursday, May 12, 2022.

A few months later the trial took place, and the economic and financial penal pole of the Sidi M’hamed court pronounced a 10-year prison sentence against Abdelmadjid Sidi Saïd, the former secretary general of the Union of Workers Algerians (UGTA) and a fine of 8 million dinars, this Monday, November 14, 2022.

The court also rendered a judgment against his son, Djamil, by pronouncing a 3-year prison sentence against him. But also against his second son, Hanafi, by sentencing him to 5 years in prison and a fine of 8 million dinars each.

In addition, the court pronounced a 12-year prison sentence against Abdelmadjid Sidi Said’s third son, Ramine, with an international arrest warrant against him and the confiscation of all movable and immovable property and financial assets.

As for the rest of the defendants, in this case, the economic and financial penal pole of the Sidi court handed down prison sentences ranging from 3 years in prison to acquittal.

The main defendant, Abdelmadjid Sidi Saïd was prosecuted for incitement of public officials to influence peddling in order to grant undue advantages to his three children, Ramine, Hanafi, and Djamil also prosecuted in the context of the same case, as well as money laundering.

Back to the heavy indictment against the former UGTA boss and his 3 sons

It should be recalled that during the trial which took place last week, the court had requested a sentence of 15 years in prison and 8 million dinars against Abdelmadjid Sidi Saïd, another 10 years in prison and 8 million dinars, against Djamil Sidi Saïd, and 18 years in prison with 8 million dinars and an international arrest warrant, against Ramine Sidi Saïd, who is on the run, (in France), as well as a fine of 32 million dinars, against the three companies Ramine and Hanafi, with confiscation of their movable and immovable property.
