The meeting was held on the second day of the field visit by the Qatari delegation to Mauritania, during which a number of large development projects were opened, such as a centre for the deaf in Mauritania costing QR1m and two large mosques that were built and fully equipped.

QC’s delegation and a delegation from the Mauritanian government headed by the Minister of Social Affairs, Maymunah bint Al Taqi, inaugurated the centre of Sheikh Nasser bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, who is the son of the Founder of Qatar, H H Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani.

This centre is the official headquarters of the Deaf Rehabilitation and Education Center in the capital Nouakchott. The cost of this project was about QR1m and it benefits nearly 500 deaf students.

The new centre is located in Arafat province, the most populous province in Nouakchott. Moreover, the centre is spread over 1,000 square metres and consists of several units: a kindergarten for deaf children, places for games, a hall for early diagnosis of hearing to know to what extent hearing is damaged, and a primary school consisting of six classrooms of 240 square metres enough for 240 students. It also has different clubs for computer, chess, and drawing; a library, and a 100 square metre separate building for the management comprising a manager’s office, a teachers’ room, and a library. The centre is going to be fully equipped in order to operate efficiently.
