Morocco succeeds in entering the contention in the African Cup of Nations (CAN). The Atlas Lions beat Ghana, this Monday, January 10, with the score of 1 goal to 0, on the first day of group C, thanks to a goal by left winger Sofiane Boufal in the 83rd minute of the game, on a ball badly negotiated by the opposing defense. The Moroccan selection takes the lead in the standings with 3 points while waiting for the group’s other match, opposing Gabon to the Comoros Islands.

Authors of very average performance, Vahid Halilhodzic’s men were far from their best level, but were nevertheless able to master the meeting, in front of even more limited and very rarely dangerous Ghanaians. Impacted by several absences for injury or because of covid-19, especially on the offensive side (Ryan Maee, Ayoub El Kaâbi, and Youssef Ennesyri), the national team will have to redouble their efforts to produce better football and hope to worry the big favorites in order to go the furthest in the competition. The success against Ghana, the most complicated opponents of the group on paper, allows the Lions to take a serious option for the round of 16, and to approach the next matches with more confidence.
