Borders of Morocco: No Reopening This Year

Morocco has decided to maintain the suspension of international flights at least until the end of the year, in the face of the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic and the appearance of the Omicron variant.

Big disappointment for the actors of tourism, who hoped for a lifting of the suspension as of today: the General Directorate of Moroccan Civil Aviation ( DGAC ) announced to the airlines the extension “until December 31, 2021, at 11:59 p.m.” the ban on international flights to and from the Kingdom, which came into effect on November 30  for two weeks initially. “Repatriation flights” will therefore remain in place at least until 2022, granted on an ad hoc basis by the Moroccan regulator on a bilateral basis.

Royal Air Maroc immediately relayed the bad news that applies to its flights in both directions, specifying on social networks that its “special flights already scheduled between December 10 and 13, 2021, from Morocco and to Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, and Mauritania are maintained”. For affected passengers, RAM authorizes the change and reimbursement of international transport tickets according to the following options for any ticket with an initial travel date from 09 to 31 December 2021:

  • Either, a free change, from / to the same destination or another of the RAM network in the same geographical area (Africa, North America, Europe, Middle East), for a new travel date during the 15 days following the resumption flights;
  • Either, a change without penalty with application of the fare difference, from / to the same destination or another on the RAM network in the same geographical area for a new travel date between the 16th day after the date of resumption of flights and the 31st October 2022;
  • Or, a reimbursement in the form of a registered, non-transferable and non-assignable credit note, valid for 12 months from the date of issue. The Customer is required to come to his initial point of sale to request his credit note, during the validity period of the ticket”.

Same confirmation online at low-cost Air Arabia: “in accordance with the latest Moroccan directives, the suspension of flights to and from Morocco has been extended until December 31, 2021, at 11:59 pm, however, repatriation flights departing from Morocco are still operational”.
