According to the communication office of the Court of First Instance of Tunis, the victim of the fire had set himself on fire on the ground floor of the building located in the district of Montplaisir
A fire broke out on Thursday at the central headquarters of the Tunisian Ennahdha movement, located in the Montplaisir district in the capital Tunis. The disaster is said to have resulted in the death of one person, while eighteen others suffered injuries of various severities.
The Tunisian Interior Ministry explained in a statement that a charred body was discovered inside the party’s headquarters and was identified as that of a former receptionist at the party’s headquarters.
The judicial investigation is underway in cooperation with the prosecution to shed light on this incident, the same statement added.
For its part, the communications office of the Tunis Court of First Instance revealed that the victim of the fire had set himself on fire on the ground floor of the building.
The leader within Ennahdha, Noureddine Bhiri, for his part, clarified that “the vice-president of the movement, Ali Larayedh, was wounded, after having thrown himself from the second floor to escape the fire, and was transported to a private clinic in the capital”.
And Bhiri added that “the chairman of the Shoura Council, Abdelkarim Harouni, was also injured in this disaster”, noting that “Harouni’s state of health is stable”.
According to the press release from the Ministry of the Interior, the fire was brought under control and civil protection agents (firefighters) evacuated all the occupants of the building.
