ALGIERS- Prime Minister Charles Michel of Belgium started Tuesday a two-day working visit to Algeria, as part of the bilateral efforts to boost cooperation between Algeria and Belgium.

Michel was welcomed upon his arrival in Houari Boumediene international airport of Algiers by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra and members of the government.

The visit will be an opportunity for the two sides to assess bilateral relations and discuss ways and methods to develop economic exchanges.

The two officials are expected to broach the movement of people between the two countries and security issues, in a spirit of dialogue and consultation.

They will also tackle international and regional issues of common interest, including the latest political and humanitarian developments in the sub-region.

In a statement to the press following his discussions with Minister of Interior and Local Authorities Noureddine Bedoui, Francken said that “security cooperation, especially in the fight against terrorism, was at the centre of discussions.”

He added that “Belgium, like other European countries, is facing the terrorist threat.”

In this regard, he underlined Algeria’s experience in the fight against terrorism and hoped that his country would benefit from this experience, through the strengthening of cooperation in the field.

The discussions, which are part of the working visit of Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel to Algeria, were attended by the Director General of National Police, Major General Abdelghani Hamel.
