Algerian woman wins international prize for young emerging leaders

The Algerian woman, Amel Mohandi, was awarded Thursday in Washington DC by the US State Department as a “young emerging leader” in the world.

Amel Mohandi, currently a journalist with Numidia TV, was one of ten winners of the Emerging Young Leaders Award, which honors young leaders from around the world who are known for their efforts to drive positive change in society.

According to the State Department, young leaders benefit from a three-week training program in the United States aimed at strengthening their knowledge, skills and networks.

The award ceremony took place in the presence of the State Department’s Assistant Assistant for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Mark Taplin.
Amel Mohandi, has worked tirelessly for several causes, in relation to childhood and refugees. She was only 18 when she created a volunteer group for children with cancer.

The Laureate then joined the Algerian Network for the Defense of Children’s Rights (NADA) where she participated in the work of promoting the rights of children and refugees, led by this group of associations.

In 2014, Amel Mohandi created a “Vision TV” Web TV aimed at strengthening the participation of young people in social, political and economic life, an initiative that was followed in 2017 by the launch of a new communication platform project Dedicated to youth to help them promote their projects and activities on the Web.

The project, called “young people in communication”, also aims to improve citizen participation and social integration of young people.

The Algerian laureate said that the award she received today by the State Department is “a recognition” of the importance and impact of these projects she wishes to carry out to the end.
