The Algerian Head of State spoke of the “political force” that this alliance constitutes, guaranteeing, according to him, a “new economic order”.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune spoke on Sunday evening July 31 about the possibility of Algeria joining the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa). “The Brics interest us because they allow us to move away from the attraction of the two poles,” declared the Head of State in a television interview. “They are an economic and political force,” he added.
He also stressed that we should not “get ahead of events” but that there would be “good news” “We need economic conditions” to integrate the Brics and Algeria meets a good part of these criteria, he argued.
Summit of Brics
President Tebboune took part in the Brics summit by videoconference at the end of June. He had put forward “Algeria’s approach concerning the imperative establishment of a new economic order where parity and equity between countries will reign”, according to a report by the official APS agency.
“Brics” is an acronym for the group of five great powers made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which have met every year since 2011 at a summit.
