Algeria Is by Far More Developed Than Morocco

A United Nations study on the Human Development Index (HDI) in Africa places Algeria far ahead of its neighbor Morocco. Mauritius is at the top of the ranking.

The Human Development Index was used in a United Nations study as a key metric to assess countries’ development progress. The authors rely on key indicators including life expectancy, adult literacy, internet accessibility and income equality. Other elements are also taken into account in this classification.

Algeria occupies the 3rd place

These include, among other things, the efficiency and stability of governance, the availability of remunerative jobs, access to healthcare and first-rate social services, individual freedoms, a flourishing education system. Mauritius is at the top of the ranking of the most developed African countries. The country has a human development index (HDI) of 0.802. Archipelago of the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles find themselves with an index of 0.785. Next comes Algeria to occupy the third step of the podium, with a human development index of 0.745. The Moroccan neighbor is not even in the wake.

Morocco in 9th place

In this top 10, Morocco ranks ninth with a human development index of 0.683. Conversely, in another ranking published in March 2023, the Soft Power , Morocco is better off than Algeria. Globally, Switzerland is the most developed country in the world, with an HDI of 0.962. It is ahead, according to the United Nations study, of Norway, which has an HDI of 0.961. Iceland closes the world podium with a human development index of 0.959.
