Algeria important partner to Kenya, says President Kenyatta

LOME (Togo)- Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta said Saturday in Lome, Togo, that Algeria will remain an “important partner” for his country, expressing the determination of the two countries to carry on cooperation to boost partnership.

Following discussions with Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, the representative of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on the sidelines of the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Maritime Security and Safety and Development in Africa, the Kenyan president told reporters that Algeria “will remain an important partner, and we will continue to work together to boost our partnership.”

President Kenyatta said Algeria and Kenya “make their way towards a commercial cooperation in different fields,” adding that the two sides “share the same concerns over the threats the continent is facing.”

President Kenyatta said he had tackled with Sellal the “bilateral relations and the methods and ways to boost them.”

Algeria and Kenya “share common history and the same views on African issues.”

 

The discussions were attended by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.
