Algeria condemned, in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community, the terrorist attack which targeted a water lifting station in the Suez Canal in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and caused many dead and wounded among the Egyptian armed forces.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Algeria also expressed its full solidarity with the government and people of the sister Arab Republic of Egypt, affirming its full support for the efforts of the Egyptian authorities to fight terrorism.

The Algerian State has renewed its call for the strengthening of counter-terrorism mechanisms at the regional and international levels in order to ensure a joint and effective response to this scourge that threatens international peace and security, as well as hinders the efforts of economic development.

It should be noted that the Egyptian army announced that it had foiled a terrorist attack on a water pumping station east of the canal in the western Sinai region.

Al-Arabiya TV reported that military sources said a group of takfiri elements launched the attack on the rising water point east of the Suez Canal, west of Sinai.

These groups were engaged and confronted with the elements in charge of operating on the point concerned by the attack, which resulted in the death of an officer and 10 soldiers and the injury of 5 people.

As a reminder, Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra earlier called on African ministers to commit to the new vision promoted by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the fight against terrorism, which consists of adapting and giving greater impetus to the various mechanisms of joint African action according to an approach that takes into account the capacities that this scourge has revealed to adapt, as well as the need for continuous work to dry up all its sources of financing by formulating a continental strategy for this purpose.
