Algeria: Automotive Giant Stellantis Will Set up a Production Plant for Fiat Brand Vehicles

Stellantis’ first industrial site in Algeria is counting on strong local integration to produce passenger vehicles and utility vehicles.

The automobile group Stellantis signed this Thursday, October 13, an agreement with the Algerian government for the establishment of a production plant for Fiat brand vehicles in Algeria.

Signed in Algiers in the presence of the Algerian Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zeghdar, and the general manager of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, the agreement provides in particular for the “production of Fiat brand passenger and utility vehicles as well as the development of ‘industrial activities, after-sales services and spare parts in Algeria’, according to information reported by the Algerian press agency, APS.

The industrial site should be installed in Oran, a port city located in the northwest of Algeria, 432 km from the capital Algiers.

“For us, the mission is very clear. With the Fiat brand, we will bring to Algerian society the best we have to offer mobility that is safe, clean and affordable. We will bring the models, the platforms and the technologies,” said the CEO of the Stellantis Group during the signing ceremony of the agreement.

“We have understood the interest of the country, and we will quickly converge towards the highest possible local integration,” he added.

The Algerian Minister of Industry, for his part, indicated that the establishment of a Fiat brand vehicle factory in Algeria comes “after intense consultations between the two parties” and constitutes “a concretization of the distinguished relations between Algeria and Italy” .

Born from the merger in 2021 between the French PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) and the Italian-American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Stellantis has fourteen different brands, including Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Dodge. This automotive giant announced record profits of $15.1 billion in 2021 for a turnover of $172.2 billion.
