Algeria: 16 years in prison for the former head of Internal Security

The former boss of the General Directorate of Internal Security in Algeria (DGSI), General Wassini Bouaza, was sentenced Thursday April 1 by the Military Court of Appeal in Blida to 16 years in prison.

Considered “the armed wing” of the former vice-minister of defense, chief of staff of the Algerian army, who died in December 2019, General Wassini Bouaza was prosecuted for “non-compliance with military instructions “,” influence peddling “,” illicit enrichment “and” obstructing the work of justice “.

Previously, the prosecutor at the military court requested 20 years in prison against Bouazza.

Three other officers were on trial in the same case. They are Colonel Lotfi who received 15 years in prison and two officers named Nabil and Iskander who each received 10 years in prison.

Last June, Bouazza Ouassini was sentenced to 8 years in prison by the military court of Blida, while other cases in which he is involved the former boss of the DGSI, sacked on April 13, are ongoing instruction.
