On social networks, Algerian Internet users have repeatedly expressed their indignation at the high cost of plane tickets to Algeria from France.
Very often, comparisons are made between the prices charged on flights to Algeria and those to Tunisia and Morocco.
Note that the prices of tickets to Morocco and Tunisia are very low compared to those to Algeria. The main explanation for these discrepancies concerns the imbalance between supply and demand.
Flights between France and Algeria: insufficient supply
It should be noted that the number of flights currently authorized between France and Algeria each week (about fifty) corresponds to the flight program of a day or two for Tunisia and Morocco.
It is therefore quite normal that tickets to Algeria are more expensive, given the very limited number of flights from France.
We carried out booking simulations for one-way tickets at Air Algérie, Tunisair, and Royal Air Maroc to compare the prices of the three Maghreb companies on flights from France in February.
We also visited the Air France website to see what the ticket prices are to Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.
France – Algeria: the prices of plane tickets
At Air Algérie, the few seats still available for sale are offered from €471 between Paris Orly and Algiers. The majority of flights are sold out until the end of March.
On the Air France side, ticket prices between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Algiers start from €519 (for a departure on February 28) but the majority of flights are offered between €606 and €761. Demand has increased again in recent days, which explains this increase at Air France.
France – Morocco: prices at RAM and Air France
On the Royal Air Maroc website, five daily flights are on sale from Paris to Casablanca, including four from Orly airport. For a one-way ticket on the Paris Orly flight to Casablanca, you have to pay from 341 € while the ticket costs 344 € from Roissy Charles de Gaulle.
At Air France, one-way tickets between Paris and Casablanca start at €141 and can reach a maximum of €331.
France – Tunisia: prices at Tunisair and Air France
On the Tunisair website, the one-way ticket between Paris and Tunis costs from 535 Tunisian dinars or 163 €. At Air France, prices to the same destination start from €74 and reach €642 on certain dates.
