Montreal – Twelve Algerian students expelled yesterday January 11, 2021 by Canada are currently stranded at Casablanca airport in Morocco. They were deported upon arrival in Montreal by Canadian immigration services. They arrived in Montreal on the Royal Air Maroc flight from Algiers with a stopover in Casablanca.

This follows the ban on entry into Canada for the 7 Algerian students who arrived in Montreal on Air Algeria’s Algiers-Montreal flight. Among the 7 inadmissible students, 4 took the way back to Algiers on the January 10 flight with Air Algeria. Three students were allowed to remain on Canadian soil until their situation was rectified.
We made contact with the students present at Casablanca airport. They informed us that they are on their own. They contacted officials from Royal Air Maroc to ask them to provide accommodation. So far, they are in a waiting room in the airport transit area. The LES ALGERIANS DE MONTRÉAL facebook page posted a video showing the students calling for help. The students explained to us that the Canadian border services in Montreal required them to meet conditions for entry into Canada that were not foreseen when they took the steps to obtain the study visa.

At Casablanca airport, they will spend their first night in a common room on passenger benches. The students also told us about the lack of food. They do not understand, either, why the airline does not support them and does not assure them the return flight Casablanca-Algiers.

In recent days, we have seen a sharp increase in cases of refusal of entry to Canada for Algerian students who want to continue their studies in Canadian schools. The reasons for refusal are many and different. We are awaiting an explanation from the competent authorities regarding this growing phenomenon of evictions.

Is Canada at odds with Algeria? Algerian authorities accredited to the Canadian government must seek clarification. Algerian students and their families must have clear answers so that they can make their decisions and go to study in a different place if Canada does not want them.
