The United States on Saturday condemned the terrorist attack that took place a few days ago in the town of Al-Gatroune, 700 km south of the Libyan capital Tripoli, where three members of the security forces under the Libyan ministry of the Interior, were killed.

The Interior Ministry announced Thursday in a press release the death of three members of its forces and four elements of Daesh, following an armed attack carried out by the terrorist group, Wednesday, 80 km from the city of Al-Gatrun.

“We condemn the recent terrorist attack in the south of the country and express our condolences to the families of the victims,” ​​the statement from the US diplomatic representation said, quoting US Ambassador and Special Envoy for Libya Richard Norland.

“The United States supports any effort to protect Libya’s sovereignty from terrorism and is working to improve security in southern Libya and the border region by unifying the country’s military forces,” the statement said. source.

The last elements of Daesh are still active in southern Libya, the city of Sirte (east) was the stronghold of the terrorist nebula during the years 2015 and 2016.

Libya has suffered for years from armed conflict and a split in the military structure, due to the conflict between General Khalifa Haftar, head of the armed forces in the east of the country, and internationally recognized governments, which disputed legitimacy and authority in this North African country.
