Video-sharing app TikTok will be banned from all US federal agencies. Owned by the Chinese new technology company, ByteDance, it is perceived as a threat to national security by the American authorities.

U.S. federal agency officials must uninstall the TikTok app within 30 days, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) ordered on Monday (February 27).

In a memorandum, the head of that office, Shalanda Young, called on government agencies to “remove and prohibit installations” of the app on devices owned or managed by them, and to “prohibit internet traffic from these devices to the app.

The move by the US authorities comes a few days after a similar decision by the European Commission. The Government of Canada has also announced cimicary measures.

It should be recalled that last November, the management of TikTok had admitted that certain employees in China could access the data of European users, and had admitted, a month later, that employees had used this data to track down journalists, while denying any Chinese government control or access to his data.
