Two wins and two losses are the results recorded by African teams after the first match of the group stage of the U20 World Cup 2023. Senegal and Tunisia missed their entry, while Nigeria and Gambia ensure their victories.

Reigning CAN U20 champions, Senegal struggled in their first match of the 2023 U20 World Cup . Against Japan, the Cubs were surprised by an early goal from the young Samurai. Senegal therefore lost their duel 1-0 for their debut in the tournament which takes place in Argentina.

Tunisia can’t do it, Nigeria gets away with it

The young Eagles of Carthage crossed paths with the English selection for their first match of the 2023 U20 World Cup. Tunisia tried to surprise their opponent many times, but without success. The English took advantage of the openings to score a goal in the game. That was enough to inflict a 1-0 defeat on Tunisia in this duel. Nigeria, meanwhile, is doing well against the modest team of the Dominican Republic. The Flying Eagles won the game 1-2 after trailing 1-0 in the duel.

The Gambia makes a good entry impression

Abdoulie Bojang and his team needed a victory to properly launch their tournament. They managed to do it against Honduras at the end of the night from Monday to Tuesday. But it took until the final moments for Gambia to secure a 2-1 victory. The Young Scorpions thus allow Africa to sign a second victory in four games.
