The International Monetary Fund (IMF), estimated in a report on the outlook for the world economy, published on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, that growth in Tunisia should stand at 2.2% in 2022 and at 1. 6% in 2023.

The IMF clarified that data on Tunisia’s economic outlook over the last period has not been published due to ongoing talks between the Fund and the Tunisian government on a new financing agreement.

It will be recalled that an official Tunisian delegation is currently in Washington to continue the negotiations and submit the file of the major reforms envisaged by the economy of the country while trying to obtain a new credit worth 4 billion dollars.

It should be noted that the IMF expects from Tunisia a set of structural reforms, described as painful for Tunisia which has already been suffering for several years from an economic crisis which would require the lifting of subsidies, the review of the situation of companies public services and the freezing of the wage bill.

This is how the delegation will try to convince the IMF to grant the said credit in return for a program of reforms including, in particular, the improvement of the investment climate, the removal of obstacles, the release of initiatives and the acceleration of the pace of development.

The Fund’s Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, announced on October 3 that negotiations with Tunisia to obtain a financing agreement had reached an advanced stage and specified that “the size of the program would depend on the evolution of the negotiations”.
