The main Tunisian political parties, including the Ennahdha movement, boycott the national dialogue launched by President Kais Saied

The president of the Tunisian Ennahdha movement, Rached Ghannouchi, declared on Sunday that the end of the “coup” was imminent.

“I salute the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) for refusing to participate in the masquerade of the national dialogue,” Ghannouchi said on the sidelines of a meeting held in the city of Sfax (southeast) to mark the 41st anniversary of the founding of the Ennahdha movement.

The UGTT, the powerful Tunisian trade union center, refused to take part in a national dialogue launched at the invitation of President Kais Saied in the context of a deep political crisis in the country.

The dialogue, which began on Saturday, was boycotted by Tunisia’s main political parties, including Ennahdha.

Ghannouchi accused Saied of pressuring the justice minister to take legal action against Ennahdha.

“Ennahdha was not involved in any crime, which prompted Saied to unfairly dismiss judges,” he said.

The Tunisian president dismissed 57 magistrates last week, accusing them of corruption and protecting terrorists.

Among the dismissed judges is Youssef Bouzaker, the former president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, whose members the Tunisian president replaced this year.

Another prominent magistrate on the list is Béchir Akremi, whom Saied supporters accuse of being too close to the Ennahdha party.

Tunisia has been in the throes of a deep political crisis since July 25, 2021, when President Saied fired the government, suspended parliament, and assumed executive authority, a move decried by his opponents as a “coup”. In March, he proceeded to dissolve the parliament after MPs held a session to overturn Saied’s emergency measures.
