Tunisia: Road and Highway Projects Will Soon Be Launched for an Envelope of 2.9 Million Dinars

The Minister of Equipment and Housing, Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzeri, emphasized the importance of the construction and public works sector, being “a vital and strategic sector contributing, in large part, to creating economic and social dynamics.

In a speech at the opening of a workshop organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO) on “the realities and prospects of the construction and public works sector in Tunisia”, the minister called for finding the means to strengthen the partnership between the various stakeholders with a view to promoting this sector.

This workshop is an opportunity to examine the means to find solutions to the difficulties of the sector, and the need to implement a strategy to promote it and open up prospects capable of developing it, nationally and internationally. , so that it fully plays its role in the national economy”.

She added that her ministry’s responsibility towards the construction sector is “to help it return to its normal activity after the decline recorded, due to economic difficulties and the health crisis, by encouraging lower costs on the local market, and counting on international cooperation with a view to outsourcing”.

She also affirmed that her ministry supports the establishment of a strategy for the revival and development of this sector.

This sector is currently experiencing a certain slump and its contribution to GDP has fallen significantly, from 26% in 2000 to 7% in 2020.

The Director General of Bridges and Roads, Slaheddine Zouaoui, revealed that 136 road projects, bridges, etc. are in progress, for an envelope of 2.7 million dinars.

He announced the start in the next few months of other infrastructure projects, worth 2.9 million dinars, the most important of which is the Tunis/Jelma highway project.
