Tunisia: Reduction in the Trade Deficit during the First 11 Months of 2023

The balance of the trade balance is in deficit of 16,543 million dinars (MD) (5,284.46 million dollars) during the first eleven months of the year 2023, against a deficit of 23,296.5 MD (7,441. 79 million dollars) during the same period of 2022.

This is what emerges from data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) relayed by the Tunis Afrique Presse agency (TAP/official), on Monday.

The coverage rate gained 8.1 points compared to the same period in 2022 to stand at 77.2%.

This deficit mainly comes from the deficit recorded with certain countries, such as China (-7,759.6 MD) ($2,478.71 million), and Russia (-6,385.1 MD) ($2,039.64 million). dollars), Algeria (-3,932.9 MD) ($1,256.32 million), Türkiye (-3,002.7 MD) ($959.18 million), Brazil (-1,227. 9 MD) ($392.24 million) and Egypt (-804.4 MD) ($256.96 million), according to the note on Foreign Trade at current prices, for November 2023, published Sunday by the ‘INS.

On the other hand, the balance of trade in goods recorded a surplus with other countries, mainly France (5,340 MD) ($1,705.80 million), Germany (2,587.6 MD) ( 826.58 million dollars), Italy (1,346.5 MD) ($430.12 million) and Libya (2,098.7 MD) ($670.40 million).

On the other hand, the trade balance deficit excluding energy is reduced to 7,432.7 MD (2,374.29 million dollars). The energy balance deficit stands at 9,110.3 MD (2,910.18 million dollars) (55.1% of the total deficit) compared to 9,195.1 MD (2,937.26 million dollars) during the eleven first months of 2022, according to the same source.
