A fourth convoy of 49 people arrived in Conakry on Saturday, as part of the airlift established since March 1st.

A fourth convoy of 49 Guineans arrived in Conakry on Saturday from Tunisia, the Guinean presidency announced on its official twitter account.

This new arrival is part of an airlift established by the Guinean presidency to voluntarily repatriate its nationals in Tunisia, following the tensions caused by remarks deemed “racist” by President Kaïs Saïed on February 21. .

The airlift had been established on March 1 by the Guinean presidency to repatriate Guineans who so wish and a first flight allowed the return of around fifty people the same day.

The second and third convoys took place respectively on 4 and 7 March. The Guinean authorities have not communicated the exact number of people repatriated so far.

Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, president of the transition in Guinea, went to the International Airport Ahmed Sékou Touré to welcome his compatriots coming from Tunisia.

As a reminder, other countries such as the Ivory Coast and Mali have carried out similar repatriations, following the migration crisis which continues to rekindle controversy in Tunisia and elsewhere.

Also, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and several other organizations of society have condemned remarks and practices considered “racist” against sub-Saharan nationals in Tunisia, pushing the Tunisian authorities to take appeasement measures.
