The Association of Tunisian Magistrates (AMT) has decided to extend the sectoral strike until November 18. This decision comes in a context of failure to respect the legitimate demands announced earlier.

The duration of the strike and its new arrangements will be determined later, announced the AMT in a press release published this Friday, November 20, 2020.

Among the demands of the magistrates are the improvement of working conditions in the courts and the establishment of means of prevention against the spread of the Coronavirus.

They are also calling for a salary increase and the enactment of a basic law that protects their independence.

Recall that the executive office of the AMT had announced a general strike of 5 days, from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November 2020, denouncing the “catastrophic conditions” and the state of health of the judges “which will lead to the paralysis of justice “.

He also called on the Superior Council of the Magistracy to assume its responsibility in the resolution of the crisis situation of the judicial establishment in relation to the disastrous working conditions and the spread of the epidemic in all the courts.
