Political and civil society activists have launched an initiative to support the candidacy of Issam Chebbi for the next presidential election.
To date, 100 people have signed this initiative to support the candidacy of the secretary general of the Al-Joumhouri party, who has been in detention since last February and who was chosen by the BE of his party for the 2024 presidential election.
The latter claim to “defend the right of citizens to freely choose the person who will lead the country” by calling for respect for “ the conditions of free, fair and transparent elections” and also say they are convinced of the innocence of Issam Chebbi.
They, therefore, called for his release “so that equal opportunities between the candidates are respected” while reaffirming their willingness to support any political initiative aimed at unifying the democratic opposition around a single candidate in the next presidential election.
