The Secretary-General of the Democratic Current Party, Ghazi Chaouachi declared that “it is time to form a united national front, to express its rejection of the single path of the President of the Republic, and to devote the minimum threshold of common points, including the defense of the path of democratic transition, rights and freedoms, and the guarantee of the country’s exit from the crisis.

In a statement given to the TAP news agency on Sunday, Chaouachi said that this front will not only oppose Kais Saied but will carry an alternative project and will include a roadmap that will allow it to play the role of an alternative to save the country from the situation it is going through.

Regarding the components of this front, he stressed the need to include the most important political, social and economic actors of different ideologies, as well as civil society actors, in order to avoid any collapse of the state and return to the path of democracy and constitutional transition.

He also considered that Tunisia has entered a decisive phase, perhaps the darkest in its history, given the socio-economic and political conditions which are worsening day by day, in view of the insistence of the President of the Republic to impose its project of establishing a new constitution which establishes a new republic.

He blamed the president for what the country is going through, and those who support his project, as well as his opponents, for their inability to impose a rational and patriotic alternative capable of saving the country from its crisis and making in the face of any state collapse.

Expressing concern that continuing the situation as it will “lead to an explosion and social unrest”, especially in light of rising prices, economic slowdown and tight liquidity.

It should be noted that Ghazi Chaouachi, in recent media statements, confirmed that Ahmed Nejib Chebbi’s “National Salvation Front” initiative would be doomed to failure if it were limited to parties and political groupings originally of the crisis, considering that any initiative in which the UGTT is not involved will not go far and they will not be able to save the country.
