The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, expressed, this Friday, October 6, his wish to hold a meeting of the European Council and Tunisia, at the end of the year, reports the Italian agency, Nova.

Present at the informal meeting of heads of state and government of the 27 in Granada (Spain), Borrell spoke in these terms: “We have a partnership agreement with Tunisia, and my plan is to hold the meeting of the first partnership council with Tunisia, before the end of the year.

He considered the planned meeting to be the space where all issues related to modes of cooperation with Tunisia will be discussed, including migration. “Migration is not an isolated issue, there is no migration on one side, and other issues on the other side, we need to proceed on a larger scale, and put migration at the center, for its impact on all policies.

In doing so, a meeting was held the day before on the fight against human trafficking, under the sponsorship of Italy and the United Kingdom, with the participation of Albania, France, the Netherlands, and the European Commission, where eight points were agreed.

The said points relate in particular to coordination in the fight against crimes, in particular with the United Nations, the fight against irregular migration, and the establishment of international partnerships, with the main countries, to deal with the radical reasons for migration.

They also provide the support of partner countries, to strengthen border protection, and avoid irregular transits, the support of these same countries through the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as well as cooperation on the return and repatriation of migrants.

These points also recommend cooperation on visa policies.
