Othman Batikh held the office of Mufti of the Republic of Tunisia since January 12, 2016.

The mufti of the Republic of Tunisia, Othman Batikh, died early in the morning of this Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the age of 81 at the military hospital in Tunis.

Othman Batikh had held the office of Mufti of the Republic of Tunisia since January 12, 2016. He had previously served as Tunisian Minister of Religious Affairs from February 6, 2015 to January 12, 2016.

A native of Tunis, Othman Battikh had studied at the Franco-Arab school before continuing his secondary studies at Zitouna, in its annexes of the Saheb Ettabaâ mosque during the first two years, then at the Zitouna secondary school, also called high school Ibn-Khaldoun.

He had done his university studies at the Superior School of Law in Tunis, with Mohamed Fadhel Ben Achour, Mohamed Malki, Mohamed Ben Slama and Mohamed Annabi as teachers. At the end of his studies, he had worked as a judge at the Court of First Instance of Tunis for three years, at the end of which he had preferred to resume his studies at Zitouna for four years, before following a third cycle to reintegrate the university as a teacher of jurisprudence and comparative jurisprudence, in particular with the Personal Status Code.
