Tunisia: Bakers on Strike for Three Days

The National Chamber of Bakery Owners has announced a 3-day strike, starting, Thursday, June 17.

In a press release, the chamber assures us that it will proceed to strike in the event that the Ministry of Trade and Export Development does not respond to the demands of the regional chamber of Sfax.

The owners of bakeries in Sfax began a three-day strike, which began on Monday, June 14, 2021.

The strikers call in particular for the implementation of the agreements signed on June 13, 2020, and protest against the supply problems of raw materials and the lack of subsidized flour.

But this strike also made people happy among bakers. According to the president of the regional chamber of bakery owners in Sfax, Abouda Berchani, anarchic bakeries took the opportunity to sell the baguette at 500 millimes instead of 190 millimes.
