The Palestinian Embassy in Algiers celebrated on Tuesday the 34th anniversary of the proclamation, from Algiers on November 15, 1988, of the State of Palestine.

In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Algiers, Fayez Mohamed Mahmoud Abu Aita, hailed the position of Algeria, the first country to have recognized the State of Palestine, recalling the national constants to which the Palestinian leadership remains committed, namely the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with El-Quds as its capital and the return of Palestinian refugees in accordance with the relevant resolutions of international legality.

The Palestinian diplomat underlined that the celebration of this anniversary offered him the opportunity to highlight the immense success achieved by Algeria at the Conference to unify the ranks for Palestinian national unity, held in Algiers in mid -October, welcoming the efforts of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his holding in Algeria, which efforts have made it possible to unify the Palestinian factions.

Concerning the Arab Summit, held in Algiers on 1 and 2 November, the Palestinian ambassador underlined that Algeria “has made great efforts to make it a Palestinian summit par excellence, stressing that “its first decisions were moreover the reaffirmation of the centrality of the Palestinian cause in the Arab-Muslim world, the creation of support committees for El-Quds and support for Palestine’s approach to becoming a full member of the United Nations. The Arab Summit in Algiers was a success on all counts, he maintained.

For his part, the representative of the Fatah movement in Algeria, Youssef Abed indicated that the proclamation of the State of Palestine was intended to be “a message of peace from the Palestinians addressed to the whole world, to affirm their will to live in peace on the part of the Holy Land of Palestine, on the borders of June 4, 1967, with El-Quds as its capital, in compliance with the principles of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the principles of non-alignment”.

On this occasion, the speakers evoked the role of the late President Yasser Arafat, who had devoted his entire life to the fight, the struggle, and the defense of the just Palestinian cause, contributing to the training of a generation of leaders of the revolution.

On November 15, 1988, at the Palais des Nations, in Club des Pins (Algiers), President Yasser Arafat had proclaimed, during the National Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the creation of an Independent Palestinian state with El-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

In the same place, with historical symbolism deep in Palestinian memory, the Palestinian factions signed last October, the “Algiers Declaration” having crowned the work of the Gathering Conference for Palestinian National Unity, constituting a solid basis capable of bringing about the unification of the Palestinian ranks.
