To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Moroccan industrial site in Tangier, the Renault automotive group has awarded the production of a new model, in addition to the Dacia: the Mobilize Duo. This first 100% electric vehicle, designed for shared mobility, will roll off the lines in 2023.
Inaugurated in 2012 by King Mohammed VI, the Renault plant in Morocco celebrated its first decade with great fanfare, including the presence of the Moroccan Minister of Trade and Industry, Ryad Mezzour, the general manager of Mobilize Clotilde Delbos, or the industrial director of the French automotive group, José Vicente de los Mozos.

The latter shared this event on the LinkedIn network on September 14, 2022: “This week, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of our Tangier plant. I took part in the preparatory work for the construction of this plant, and it gives me great pride to see that it is today the largest automobile manufacturing site on the African continent. I am particularly happy to announce on the occasion of this anniversary that we have decided to assign to the factory the manufacture of a new model, a small electric vehicle designed for shared mobility. In line with the Renaulution strategy, this new commitment marks the importance of the Tangier plant in the Renault Group’s industrial system. Congratulations to all the teams for their involvement and this great success. » Since the site opened, Moroccan employees have manufactured nearly 2.4 million vehicles, then shipped to more than 70 countries.
A first 100% electric vehicle at the Renault plant in Tangier
So yes, 10 years is something to celebrate, and we had to mark the occasion. As a gift, Renault Group has entrusted the Tangier plant with the production of the Duo model, this Mobilize brand quadricycle dedicated to the manufacturer’s mobility services. The festivities are all the more beautiful as the site is awarded a 100% electric product for the first time. A model that he will try to get off the assembly lines from 2023, by trying to integrate 50% recycled materials in its manufacture and to make it 95% recyclable at the end of its life, we promise. If the investment concerning the installation of this new assembly line specific to electric is not known, it is however known that the complex would have a capacity expandable to 17,000 vehicles per year. The Mobilize Duo will thus rub shoulders with the Dacia Sandero, Dokker, Lodgy, and other Renault Express produced on this Moroccan site.
Remember that the Mobilize Duo was presented at the Salon VivaTech in 2021 and that it will be exhibited at the Mondial de l’auto 2022, in Paris (from October 17 to 23). It is also a cousin of Twizy, which it will logically replace, and remains the direct competitor of the Citroën Ami. By allocating production of the Duo to Morocco, Renault is following the same cost-cutting policy as Stellantis, which produces its electric quadricycle in Kenitra. The made in Morocco attracts because it is cheaper, and there is still room to accommodate new electric vehicles.
