The American Embassy in Algiers is known for its initiatives aimed at improving the relationship between the two countries. Indeed, the latter does not hesitate to highlight Algerian tourism and to promote American culture through its various platforms.

This time, in a video posted on Facebook, Paul Wolfsburg, the spokesperson for the United States Embassy in Algiers, introduced us to an American tourist. This is Chris, a “ globetrotter ” who has visited more than 143 countries, the last of which was Algeria. The young man has fond memories of the country which he describes as a “continent”, given its diversity and vastness.

“What surprised me in Algeria was the kindness and hospitality of its people. I heard about it before going there. However, I was completely blown away by their friendliness when I visited the country and met them in person,” says Chris.

The tourist also thinks that Algeria has many similarities with other countries, but what differentiates it from others is the fact that it looks like a continent. “If you look at other countries, you will generally find the same peculiarities everywhere across them. However, in Algeria, each city is completely different from the other. The country enjoys great diversity, each department is unique and that is why it is called the continent”. Add the young man.

The most beautiful Wilaya in Algeria according to American tourist Chris

According to the globetrotter, Timimoun is the city he liked the most in Algeria, because of its sunset by which he was dazzled. “If you don’t know, Timimoun is a red city, everything is painted red there. And, when the sun goes down, the place comes to life and becomes more beautiful with the sun’s rays reflecting off the red houses”, reports the young Chris.

Moreover, the tourist thinks that what makes this city of southern Algeria unique in his eyes, is the fact that it does not receive many visits from local tourists. According to him, even Algerians do not go there, which makes it a place where you can live the “Algerian experience” without anyone around you.

Tourism in Algeria: why is this sector dying?

Even if Algeria has several assets to become one of the most touristic countries in the world, it seems that tourism there is in a dying phase. This is not only the consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, several factors have affected this sector for years, in particular the high cost of air transport and hotel services.

However, several choices are available to tourists in Algeria, including the following types of tourism:

  • Thermal;
  • Religious;
  • mountain dweller;
  • Cultural ;
  • History;
  • Saharan;
  • Seaside.

Moreover, this is what the Director of the Tourism Quality Plan and Regulation at the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, Karim Chikhi, recalled in a statement to APS in September 2021. He also underlined the importance of promoting the assets of Algeria for the development of local tourism. On the other hand, many Algerians are counting on the Mediterranean games planned for the summer in Oran to revive the tourist sector in Algeria.
