Here it is, officially: The 2019 BMW 8 Series Coupe. We’ve been waiting a long time for this thing to show its face and, my God, does it look good.

The 8 Series Coupe will launch with two models, the M850i xDrive Coupe M Performance with a V8, and the 840d xDrive Coupe with a six-cylinder diesel. It’s a pretty safe bet that we won’t be getting the diesel, though. Both engine options will be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

That V8 will be the 4.4-liter twin-turbo powerhouse that we know and love, offering 530 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims that the zero to 60 sprint happens in just 3.6 seconds and that the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The headlights are slimmer and sleeker than ever, giving the face and tail of the car an extremely windblown look, which I am very much for. The profile is long and low, just as a luxury grand tourer should be.

The M Sport package comes with smaller air intakes, 19-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded braking system and light-up M logos on the door sills so your date will never forget what car you drive, even when it’s dark out. The M Performance model will have 20-inch wheels, performance tires, upgraded brakes and a few more touches on the inside that proclaim it special.

No price was announced yet, but it’s definitely going to be in the low $100,000-range.

I also cannot help but notice that the current M5 is still more powerful than the 8. Does that mean that an M8 is in the works? It’s easier than ever to build power with turbocharged engines these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if an upcoming M8 had, like, 650 HP or something.

Anyway, I like to dream. Here are some pictures of the official car.
