Beni Makada police thwarted a major international drug smuggling attempt on Wednesday and seized a record shipment of 31 tons 197 kilograms of chira, during an operation carried out in close coordination with the prefectural judicial police service. from Tangier.
This operation was carried out in a warehouse in the region of “Badriouyene” located at the level of the road to Rabat, at the exit of the city of Tangier, indicates a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The intervention led to the arrest of an individual with a criminal record, aged 61 and suspected of links with a criminal network of international drug trafficking, specifies the DGSN, noting that the searches carried out inside the warehouse resulted in the seizure of a large refrigerated trailer containing dozens of bags and bundles filled with chira.
Large amounts of drugs were also found inside the same warehouse, packaged and stuffed into fruit and vegetable figurines, the color and size of which are likely to facilitate their exit from Morocco as agricultural products intended for consumption. ‘export.
The arrested individual was placed in police custody for the purposes of the investigation, in order to determine the regional and international ramifications of this criminal network, the same source said.
This operation is part of the strategy of the General Directorate of National Security in the fight against cross-border crime, underlined the prefect of police of Tangier, Mohamed Oualla Ouhtit.
