Syria Reopens Its Embassy in Tunisia

In response to the initiative of the President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed to appoint an Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to the Syrian Arab Republic, the Syrian authorities announced their immediate approval of this appointment and decided to reopen the Syrian Embassy. In Tunisia, and to appoint an ambassador to head it soon,” said a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, dated Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

And to add that “since the two parties are taking care to resume the normal course of their relationship, consultation, and coordination between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries are continuing in order to establish the age-old fraternal ties that unite Tunisia and Syria, and to hoist high the values ​​of solidarity and synergy between them, and this for good and the interest of their two brother peoples”.

Let us recall that at the beginning of February, Kaïs Saïed had decided to raise Tunisian diplomatic representation in Syria. A decision which comes with the violent earthquake which affected the region (Syria and Turkey) which had killed more than 45,000 people, following which the Head of State had ordered to send urgent aid to Syria and Turkey.

On March 10, the President of the Republic expressed his desire to appoint a Tunisian ambassador to Syria, assuring that nothing could justify this absence.
