ALGIERS- Spain’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ignacio Ybanez expressed Monday, in Algiers, his country’s will to intensify cooperation with Algeria in many fields.

“We have tackled bilateral cooperation, including the fight against terrorism in which it is very close, and economic relations. We have agreed on making more efforts to boost it,” Ybanez told reporters following his meeting with Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel.

“Our relations with Algeria are excellent and strategic to Spain, and we intend to further develop them,” he noted.

The Spanish official said there are “important potentials” in both countries to develop and diversify the bilateral cooperation.

Messahel said Spain is one of Algeria’s major partners.

“It is a neighbouring country with which we have old ties and with which we want to strengthen cooperation in various areas.”
