President Saïed Chairs Commemoration of 58th Anniversary of Evacuation Day

Tunis, Oct 15, 2021 – The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, presided at the official ceremony of the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of Evacuation Day, on Friday, in Bizerte.

On his arrival, the Head of State saluted the flag to the sound of the national anthem, before reviewing a detachment of the three arms which paid him the honors.

He then went to the Martyrs ‘Square where he laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the martyrs’ memorial and recited the Fatiha in their memory.

On this occasion, the Head of State discussed with former combatants and recalled with them chapters in the history of Tunisia, in particular, that in relation to the struggle for independence and the battle for the evacuation of Bizerte, indicates a press release from the presidency.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the head of government, Najla Bouden, the Minister of National Defense, Imed Memiche, senior officers of the military institution, members of the High Council of the Armed Forces, and former resistance fighters. The governor of Bizerte, Samir Abdellaoui also took part in the event. 

Rather, the President of the Republic went to Borj Chellouf (delegation from Bizerte-Sud) where he listened to the concerns of citizens.

The feast of the evacuation of October 15, 1963, marks the departure of the last French soldier from Tunisian territory.
