“An invasion! », According to the Italians of Lampedusa.

450 Tunisian illegal migrants reached Italian shores aboard a fishing boat yesterday, Saturday August 29, 2020.

The boat was accompanied by the Italian coast guard to the port of the island where dozens of citizens staged a protest rejecting the reception of these migrants.

According to Italian media, protesters denounced an “invasion” and said the Lampedusa is unable to accommodate more irregular migrants arriving daily, in the tens or even hundreds, in small boats.

The mayor of the Sicilian island even addressed a letter to President Kais Saied, threatening to reach the Tunisian coast with his boat, following the migrant route in the opposite direction, reports Il Giornale.

Recall that the Italian interior and foreign ministers were on an official visit to Tunis just a few weeks ago to discuss illegal immigration.
