New Fennecs Jersey: After Adidas, Algeria Responds to Morocco

Following Adidas, the Algerian Minister of Culture responded to the controversy linked to the new Fennecs jersey. A subtle answer to say the least.

Soraya Mouloudji recently appeared in parliament, wearing a scarf with Zelige motifs, claimed by her Moroccan counterpart. This attitude of the minister has been much commented on by several observers, who see it as an “elegant” way of responding to Morocco. With this gesture, the minister wanted to claim with intelligence and beauty the material heritage of the Algerian culture of Zelige, they said.

As a reminder, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture asked the German equipment manufacturer to withdraw the new jerseys of the Algerian national team, on the grounds that they would be inspired by Moroccan zellige.

The brand quickly responded on Twitter that it had drawn inspiration for the existing Zelige jersey from the Mechouar Palace in Tlemcen, in northwestern Algeria.
