Morocco will embark on the complete assembly of planes within two years, according to the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.

Morocco will be able to completely assemble PC-12 planes within two years, said Ryad Mezzour on Tuesday, during the presentation of his department’s draft budget to the House of Representatives Commission for Productive Sectors. The Minister indicated that this project will be possible thanks to the agreement concluded between a Swiss company specializing in aeronautics and another company.

Morocco had already started to produce 41% of the parts necessary for the manufacture of planes, recalled Ryad Mezzour, adding that the aeronautics sector will create more than 17,000 additional jobs by 2026. Currently, the sector employs some 11,000 people, he said.

The Minister of Industry also welcomed the timid resumption of activities in the industrial sectors (automotive and textile) after having been severely affected by the Covid-19 crisis. “The recovery rate of Moroccan exports in the automotive sector at the end of September 2021 was around 104% compared to the same period in 2019,” said Ryad Mezzour, noting that 97.8% of jobs suspended in 2020 have been restored.
