Morocco to Repatriate Body of Young Athlete Who Died in Spain

The Moroccan authorities have decided to cover the costs of transferring to Morocco the remains of Hamza Bouazzaoui, the young Moroccan athlete who died Tuesday, October 26 in a traffic accident in Calahorra in northern Spain.

Hamza Bouazzaoui, 19, was cycling home from work when he suffered a road accident between San Adrián (Navarre) and Calahorra (La Rioja). Born in Berkane, the young Moroccan was the under-20 athletics champion of Navarre and had a promising future in this discipline. He obtained Spanish nationality at the age of 18, El Faro de Ceuta reports .

A few days after his death, the Muslim community of Navarre and the athletics club of San Adrián, of which he was a member, launched crowdfunding (crowdfunding) on ​​social networks in order to repatriate his body to Morocco. But the Moroccan government finally decided to cover all the expenses related to the transfer of Hamza’s remains to Berkane, his hometown.

The family and relatives of Hamza, much appreciated in the athletic world of Navarre, were touched by the words of support and affection sent to them on social networks.
